StoWiki/ blog/ sysadmin/ New year, new server

At last I've been able to change my main server at home. I was using a P4 machine at 2Ghz, but now I've moved it's functions to the Linksys Wireless router and to an old PowerBook G4 (it has a 400Mhz PPC inside).

Yes, the new system is slower, but it is very, very quiet (the old machine is very noisy) and using the battery it is also able to maintain the machine running on Power Failures.

I don't know how long I'll be using the new server (I'll probably will move things to an external machine soon), but now I can stop the old one and have a quieter room.

BTW, on the move I've changed my personal subversion repository to the new fsfs backend, the old db files were not working on the PPC and the migration seemed a good idea (see http://web.mit.edu/ghudson/info/fsfs), I'll probably do the same at work next week and will also try some systems for Issue Tracking.
