StoWiki/ blog/ general/ High School Teacher Competitive Examination

I still can't believe it and maybe it will not be as easy as it seems now, but in a couple of weeks I can have my professional life solved by becoming a public employee, currently a computer science high school teacher.

I'm a part-time teacher at the Uni, but I never thought about teaching at a high school. Anyway, now I'm working with 6 of them and they've convinced me that it is better than it seems, mainly if I can teach in the Computer Science Professional Cycles (the students are all over 18, not teenagers ;)

They, other friends and of my girlfriend convinced me to inscribe myself in this year's Competitive Examination. I wanted to study, but I ended up doing almost nothing.

Anyway the exams started last Friday and I went to see how it was.

The first part of the exam was a written dissertation about one subject (they choosed 2 from the 74 official subjects for Computer Science and you had to pick one).

Yesterday we did the second part, 3 exams, one about Database Systems (SQL queries and an entity/relationship diagram), a test about the C programming language and the last one about networking (the problem was the design of a High School Network with 5 computer laboratories).

I feel I did it well enough, so I'm going to prepare the last part. If I pass the first block (I think I'll know next Friday) I'll have to present a written program of a full year subject, with at least 15 didactical units and later defend it in front of the exams jury (well, half an hour for the full program and half an hour explaining in detail one of the didactical units).

I've chosen one subject called Desarrollo de Funciones en el Sistema Informático (Function Development in Computer Systems) because it's basically an introductory course about Unix/Linux administration, so it has to be easy for me ... I hope.

Well, we'll see what happens this Friday, the only thing I'm afraid of is that I don't know if I'll be able to go to Manresa, were I have to give a talk about Custom Debian Distributions. I'll try to talk with the exams jury, I don't think there will be any problem if they call me to the last part before my turn.
